Akemi is bicultural and bilingual, in Japanese and English. Born and raised in Japan, Akemi also lived in the United Kingdom, Los Angeles and before settling down in Hawaii. After a decade working in the airline industry, her career shifted to asset management in Japan, where she was first exposed to real estate concepts and terminology.

She visited Hawaii often, after her first visit in 1973. Every time she came here she thought it would be a great place to live, especially for the amazing, year-round climate, and aloha spirit.
